The Meaning Behind 'Bloom'

"The grass withers the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever."

Isaiah 40:8

I first read this verse almost a year to this day. Last year for me, it meant casting my anxieties on Him and trusting in the promises of His word.

This year I came back to verse as I was painting this series of florals. With Mother's day just around the corner, I was creating these paintings with moms in mind. I started researching the meaning behind the flowers I was painting and trying to connect that meaning with what God says about mothers in His word.

As I was reading the scriptures, I realized I wanted this series to be not only just for moms, but for all the amazing women in our lives.

I want this series to serve as a reminder for all women that we are not who the world says we are. We are not defined by how we look, the clothes we wear, how much we weigh, what our career is, what our struggle is, what our marital status is, how many friends we have, the lists goes on and on.

We are defined by who God says we are in His word.

Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.

Proverbs 31:25

An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels.

Proverbs 31:10

God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns.

Psalm 46:5

She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.

Proverbs 31:26

"You should be known for the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God."

1 Peter 3:4

Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.

1 Peter 3:3-4

And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”

Luke 1:45

"Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 'Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.'

Proverbs 31:28-29

Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

Proverbs 31:30

I pray these paintings will serve as reminders that we are who He says we are!

'Bloom' releases this Wednesday, April 28th to my email list, and this Thursday, April 29th to the public.
