"To Everything there is a Season"- Fall Landscapes
This fall landscape started as a summer one — an older painting transformed with new layers of color and light. As I painted, I couldn’t help but think about how much has changed since last fall. Last fall was a season of uncertainty for our family. Our daughter had just been diagnosed, and we were preparing to leave home for five months — halfway across the country — for her bone marrow transplant. We knew everything was in His hands and had to trust that, whatever the outc

Dogwood Flowers For Christmas: A Symbol of the Cross
Each Easter, I paint the dogwood’s delicate blooms—symbols of the cross and of the love that conquered it. This year, I felt drawn to bring those blossoms into Christmas, weaving together the wonder of His birth with the purpose of His sacrifice. The dogwood flower is said to symbolize the cross of Christ. When I look at the dogwood, I see the whole story of redemption — from Bethlehem to Calvary. The One who lay in a wooden manger would one day hang upon a wooden cross and o

A Bold End to "Reflections on Light and Dark"
This collection, Reflections on Light and Dark , holds a very special place in my heart. It’s bittersweet to see it come to an end. My husband, Zach, played a big role in shaping this body of work. He encouraged me to push my boundaries—to explore the interplay of light and shadow in my landscapes using bolder, richer colors. At first, I was hesitant to step outside my established “style,” but his challenge turned out to be exactly what I needed to grow as an artist. The fina

Wildflower Shadow Paintings – A Nature-Inspired Art Project Rooted in God’s Beauty
This past week, I had the blessing of leading an art project for our small homeschool group that reminded us all of the creativity God has placed in each of us. It was simple, joyful, and turned out absolutely beautiful—perfect for little ones as young as four (with a little help) and still meaningful for teens and adults. We made wildflower shadow paintings using just wildflowers, sunlight, pencils, and watercolor paints. We placed the wildflowers in vases, then positioned
"Shelby has a real talent and skill for her craft. There is a lightness and femininity in her artwork. What I like most is the originality of her pieces. Her collections aren’t something I have seen reproduced over and over across social media and local shops."
